Kulim Toastmasters Club

April 1^st Kulim meeting was a memorable one. We had our VIP member, past District Governor DTM Siva in attendance. Invitees DTM June Lim, ACB Sutharat and ACB Palaniappa.

The evening was special as it was called “A Toast & Roast” night. The Toast was to recognize the achievement of DTM and the Roast of an important man.

AG5 Sabrina as TOE had to forgo her husband’s birthday celebration to give her moral support and to be there. We had four guests, Mohd Rapheal, Salim, Mr. Tiu Jon Ho and his son.

The word of the day was “Assert” presented by grammarian, CC Voon Ting. The Thought of the Day was mind provoking “Goal” by CC Shaiful Anwar. DTM Rajagopal conducted the Table-topics with his unique way. His topics had an option for the participate to choose. The table-topics speakers and the titles were as follows:-

1. Tiu Jon Ho                                       -           Vacation or Sports you liked most?

2. Mohd Rapheal                                  -           Country or Home you liked to stay?

3. DTM June Lim(God Mother)            -           Language or Pet you liked most?

4. ACB Palaniappa                               -           Car or Musical Instrument you like to have? 5. DTM Siva                                             -           Famous Man or Two changes in you?

They were evaluated by DTM Abdul Kadir, citing their strengths and areas for improvement. He started by commending DTM Rajagopal for the varied, mind-provoking topics.

Prepared speech by CL Soon Keong, “The Roast” was evaluated by ACB Sutharat followed by CC Cheong Yew from Inter-personal Communication “Can you stop making noise” was evaluated by DTM Siva. New member, C.G. Too with her ice breaker titled “My Story” was evaluated by DTM June Lim and the final speech by P.K.Chin “Toastmasters Beyond” CC project #6 was evaluated by DTM Abdul Kadir.

CC Yogesh withdrew his speech “Speaking in Praise” due to unknown reasons within minutes after starting.  It took the audience by surprise. DTM Siva wished him well and told the audience that it is completely alright to stop if you find difficulty in continuing.

He said the key to a good presentation was clear mind and ample preparation.

Finally the moment of Toast came. DTM Siva took to the stage to give a recognition speech for the achievement of DTM. It was nostalgic when he spoke about the history of Kulim Club and the role played by Kadir years back. DTM Kadir was presented with a DTM medal, a plaque and a T.I. tie by DTM Siva. AG Sabrina & ACB Sutharat gave a special pin and a gift from Division N.  A cake cutting ceremony was held soon after. Our special thanks to VPE Shaiful Anwar for preparing the delicious chocolate cake.

The meeting adjourned at 10.30pm and the next upcoming meeting would be on Thursday 15^th April.
